Cassandra Peterson, Elvira's alter ego, was born on a farm in Manhattan, Kansas. She remembers always being a fan of Ann-Margret. Since Cassandra saw her in Viva Las Vegas (1964), she wanted to be a dancer. Her childdhood was marrewd by a tramatic accident when she was 2. On good friday in 1954 Cassandra overturned a kettle of boiling water and it poured onto her head and back. She had burned away her hair and fused her eyes shut leaving her with scars on her body. She had skin grafts from her mother because she needed so many skin grafts. As a child kids would tease about being a monster. Finally the family moved to Colorado Springs, Colorado.

Just days after graduating from high school, Cassandra traveled to Las Vegas where, at the age of 17, she became the youngest showgirl in Las Vegas history. When Elvis Presley saw her perform he encouraged her to pursue a singing career. She toured Europe extensively as lead singer for an Italian rock band.

She settled in Rome, where she became fluent in Italian. Here Cassandra met Federico Fellini, who cast her in his classic film, Roma (1972). Returning to the US, Cassandra formed her own nightclub review, "Mama's Boys", which toured the national club circuit.

In the late 1970's she joined the satiric improvisational troupe, The Groundlings, which also produced such stars as Paul Reubens (aka "Pee Wee Herman"). There she honed her now renowned comedic skills as both a writer and performer. She also appeared in a rare film The Working Girls (1974) as Katya. Cassandra performs an hot nude striptease show with hot Vegas showgirl style. Cassandra was just the typical struggling actress and spent years wondering where her next meal was coming from.

Times were tough and Cassandra eventually found work as a nude model sometime in 1974. She posed for revealing photos and eventually High Society Magazine got hold of them. Featuring a fully exposed photos that aren't to be missed. SEEN HERE

Film and television appearances wouldn't come until many years later. By 1979 she appeared on "Happy Days" (1979) as an unseen extra. She had little sucess however until she appeared in Cheech & Chong's Next Movie (1980) After which many offers followed, notabley including Jekyll and Hyde... Together Again (1982) and The Sting II (1983).

It was in the fall of 1981, when the Elvira persona was born. Elvira, changed her entire life. While she has since played herself in many film and television shows, Cassandra Peterson ultimately combines her numerous talents into an intriguing persona which has not only become a Halloween icon, but a sexy "vamp" for all seasons. Not to mention an impressive set of ample breasts. With her towering raven beehive, blood-red lips, and sprayed-on gown slit to the thigh, wisecracking horror- film hostess Elvira is as synonymous with Halloween as the Jack O’Lantern. In fact, the Elvira costume and wig, launched in 1985, is thought to be the best-selling female Halloween costume in history. “Elvira is to Halloween what Santa Claus is to Christmas,” says Cassandra Peterson, Elvira’s strawberry-blonde alter ego. “Except I have better boobs.” The Elvira craze is on everyones mind She keep busy hosting and guest spotting on TV for a time thru the 90's. She cashed in marketing everything that wicked little vixen. Hey what the hell have a couple more jugs on Elvira... erm I mean mugs baby. Booobs !

The late 80's kept her very busy with her role as biker mama in Pee-wee's Big Adventure (1985) and sexy film Echo Park (1986) as Sheri, Allan Quatermain and the Lost City of Gold (1987), Elvira is a big fan of Vincent Price, Roger Corman and Edward D. Wood Jr. She was close friends with Vincent Price before his death in 1993.

She finally starred in her first film with the made for her movie Elvira, Mistress of the Dark (1988) . Elvira in live movie action giggling and wise cracking for all her legions of fans. She even had her own TV show "The Elvira Show" in (1993). Whereby Elvira has moved to Manhattan, Kansas, with her wacky aunt Minerva and their talking cat. Elvira a fortune teller sells love potions on the side. Unfortunately CBS found the comedy and innuendo too 'racy' for television and cancelled their order for a full season of The Elvira Show in (1993). Not more than a few years later ABC came out with a very popular show using the same chemistry as The Elvira Show. “Sabrina The Teenaged Witch,” featured two witchly aunts and their up and coming teenage niece. They even had a talking cat!

Off camera, Cassandra owns a production company named Queen B Productions in Los Angeles. She has been a hottie B movie queen for many years now. She made a another Elvira type movie in Encounter in the Thrid Dimension (1999) and Elvira's Haunted Hills in 2001.

She is a complete vegan and strong supporter of animal rights. Also, she has been an avid devotee for gay rights issues. The big fan and close friend of Vincent Price was listed as Femme Fatales magazine’s the Sci-Fi’s Sexiest B-Queens in 1997. On a more personal note, Peterson is the mother of a 15-year-old daughter named Sadie (father Mark Pierson).
