Interview - Emma Watson Talks About Potter Goblet of Fire
By Marie Morreale

NEW YORK — Actress Emma Watson, 15, who plays Hermione Granger in the “Harry Potter” movies, was interviewed when she was in Manhattan recently.

Have you ever met J.K. Rowling, the author of "Harry Potter"?

Yes. I normally see her every year.

What do you have in common with your character, Hermione?

Everything. We are really, really similar. I used to deny it, but now I don’t think it is a bad thing. She is kind of a role model for girls.

Yes. Even before I started auditioning, I read the first three books. I was a pretty big fan.

Is there anything you didn't like about the movie "Goblet of Fire"?

Probably one of the things I didn’t like is that we filmed so much material. A lot of it gets cut. When you watch it for the first time, you realize that things have been cut out. You just think that there have been months and months of work that are just gone.

What do you think is better -- the book or the movie?

That is a really difficult question. I love books, and I really hope that because of the films, kids won’t stop reading the books. Even if you have seen the films, the books are still really special.

Because of the Harry Potter movies, do your friends treat you any differently?

New people who meet me treat me differently, but my friends all treat me the same. They don’t give me any special attention.

If you weren't an actress, what would you do?

I am only 15, so it is difficult to say. I don’t know. I guess just being a normal schoolgirl would be OK.

What is it like being away from home?

I used to get really homesick, but now I love it because I get to travel a lot.
