Gwendolyn Renee Stefani was born on
October 3, 1969, in Anaheim, California. Growing up with
her sister, Jill and two brothers, Eric and Todd in southern
California. They are raised by parents Dennis and Patti
Stefani, her father Dennis is Italian and her mother Patti
is of Irish and Scottish descent. When Gwen was 12 years
old she dyed her hair blonde in and hasn't seen her natural
hair color since. Gwen was highly influenced by ska and
punk in the 80's, which were making a huge resurgence in
the Southern California area. Her first job was scrubbing
floors at a Dairy Queen and she once worked at a department
store.
Gwen's brother Eric started the band
No Doubt with his friend John Spence in 1987 and asked the
always effervescent Gwen to join in as co-vocalist with
Spence. Tony Kanal joined the group a little later, and
the trio began to gain popularity by playing at local parties.
Tony and Gwen were dating before long as she has her first
serious love at sweet 17. Before long the group was playing
small clubs in the area and was starting to develop their
own style and reputation. Meanwhile heavy metal still dominates
the rock n roll charts.
The party was over when lead singer
Spence tragically committed suicide in 1987, which led to
Gwen moving to the lead singer spot. Changing the band forever,
"The show must go on," and it did, as No Doubt
continued to perform at local gigs and Gwen developed a
little reputation of her own. In the meantime, Gwen graduates
from high school and trys to continue her studies at Cal
State Fullerton College and her hot romance with band member
Tony Kanal.
Gwen is forced to jiggle for the band,
juggle her studies, and giggle for what turned out to be
a hot seven-year romance with fellow band member, Tony Kanal.
Something had to give and it was Juggling her stidies as
Gwen quits college in 1988. In 1989, two new members joined
the No Doubt team: guitarist Tom Dumont and drummer Adrian
Young. Once No Doubt really began attracting a fan base
(thanks mostly to Gwen's energetic live and sexy performances,
at first), Flea, the Red Hot Chili Peppers' bassist was
diggin it and recorded a demo for the band in 1990. This
was the groups big break and it opened the door which led
to a deal with Interscope Records. In 1992,
the band released their self-titled debut "No
Doubt", but despite the local california club following
the band had generated, the album was far from a commercial
success. Interscope was losing faith in their potential,
but No Doubt's persistence did not waver.
No
Doubt went back into the studio with their own money and
recorded a collection of "extra" songs they had
written. Their next album, "Beacon
Street Collection", was released in 1995, and not
only struck a chord with their devout fans, but also re-sparked
Interscope's confidence in the band. During this time Gwen
and Tony Kaanel's relationship was cooling off a bit. This
is what really inspired Gwen and Tony to write a lot of
the songs on thier next golden album. Gwen had long since
dropped out of college and the band was definitely living
the starving artist life style which was becoming a problem
for the band members. Eric Stefani leaves the band to become
an animator and the future is seeriously In Doubt.
No
Doubt they were back with the hugely successful "Tragic
Kingdom", only this one was without Eric Stefani
(keyboards), who left to become an animator on TV's The
Simpsons. Released in 1995 the album "Tragic
Kingdom" took 3 years to make and teh group almost
split up. The album topped the charts with its debut single
"Just A Girl," with the help of the punk-tinged
popish lyrics accompanyed by Gwen's lost sexy little girl
image. The album went on to spawn hits such as "Spiderwebs"
and the super smash hit, "Don't
Speak." Which was written as an ode to Gwen and
Tony's former relationship, and became the band's biggest
smash to date. The
album went on to become a Billboard No. 1, and netted two
Grammy nominations for the group.
Gwens, tease me hottie look, and even
more suggestively sexy outfits didn't hurt the bands image
either. Bush's
band member frontman Gavin Rosdale noticed "No Doubt"
and during a Bush concert with No Doubt in 1996 he manages
to hook up with Gwen. They quickly become close and eventually
"fall in love"
(of course) more or less after Gwens rebound from Tony Canel.
No
Doubt's 2000 release, Return
of Saturn, spawned the hits "Ex-Girlfriend"
and "Simple Kind of Life." The spunky supermodel
sexy singer paired up with Moby to add her infectious voice
to his single, "South Side." The album was good
but not nearly as good as Tragic
Kingdom. Gwen however is, bringing out the bikini top
and lookin as fine as ever. Still a quality album considering
how many groups fade after a strong big time album. Over
all a weak effort after 4 years without a new album.
In 2001, No Doubt quickly bounced
back and released Rock
Steady which was 10 times better the previous attempt.
Enjoying some time on the charts with "Hey Baby"
and "Hella Good." They finally picked up two Grammy
Awards, both in the category of "Best Pop Performance
By A Duo Or Group With Vocal," for "Hey Baby"
and "Underneath It All." Despite this re newed
success the strength of the band is tested as most of the
band members have been together for nearly 18 years.
The group then
completes " best of " compilation album The Singles
1992-2003 and is released in late 2003, this signals the
end of No Doubt as a group. Gwen decides to pursue a solo
career tells the story without words. Gwen would have to
work harder than ever to succeed in a solo effort. Her solo
debut, ove.
Angel. Music. Baby. would be a huge test. Gwen is definatly
thinking about bigger pay checks and by now begins endorsing
a clothing line L.A.M.B.
Apparently her new boyfriend Gavin Rossdale opened her eyes,
No Doubt or empty the wallet. At any rate to complete the
"new" album she begs her xboyfriend Tony Canel
to help put everything together, whatever that means. With
hits like "What You Waiting For?" and "Rich
Girl" (featuring Eve, with whom Gwen had already paired
up on the single "Let Me Blow Ya Mind"). Clearly
in this effort some rap and hip hop influences are more
deeply felt in the new album Love.
Angel. Music. Baby.
Gwen married her long-time boyfriend
of more than five years, Bush
frontman Gavin Rossdale, on September 14, 2002, London,
England. She arrived an hour late for her wedding, her wedding
dress was designed by John Galliano. She
is now stepmother to Gavin's sixteen-year-old daughter,
Daisy Lowe. Gwen and Gavin divide their time equally between
homes in Anaheim and London. As Bush's music slides off
the charts Gwen's star continues to rise. Gwen's sex me
up fashion sense moved her into success in other industries
like fashion, with her clothing and accessory line called
L.A.M.B.
doing very well.
Gwen made her
acting debut in a small role playing hottie Jean Harlow
in the 2004 Martin Scorsese movie The
Aviator. This role featured Gwen's character in only
one scene with 2 lines heard HERE.
Her debut solo album, Love,
Angel, Music, Baby, managed to sell more albums in one
week than any No Doubt album (350,000 copies), debuting
at number 7, impressive for a debut solo artist. Her album
is certified gold after only 2 weeks of sales. The incredibly
popular album nets Gwen 6 MTV music awards. Despite being
nominated for a string of trophies, sources claim the sexy
singer was planning to boycott the Miami ceremony later
this month.
Early in 2006 Gwen (36) is pregnant,
she and Gavin are soon to be parents. This will be Gavin
Rossdale's second marriage and second child. When the couple
appeared at the Grammy Awards Gwen was a Award's presenter.
At the after party the couple talked about how they starting
work on a nursery in their north London, England home. During
the cerimonies while accepting the award. Rock god U2's
Bono
who won "Best album of the year" kisses Gwen's
baby belly on stage. Her son is born May 26, 2006, Kingston James McGregor Rossdale was born
by Caesarean section at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los angeles, CA,
and weighs 7 pounds 5 ounces. Congrats Gwen.

QUOTES
"It's
been a crazy year - all these
nominations and being pregnant"
"I think I've been able to fool a lot of people
because I know I'm a dork. I'm a geek."
"I'm like a peanut butter sandwich."
At a certain point I'm going to want to have a family and
I'm not going to have time to be running around the world
doing this shit and being greedy. I can always write songs.
But can I always wear an Alice-in-Wonderland costume? I
probably shouldn't. I can at home. I was thinking that when
I have children, that I should always dress as a character
for them, so they think their mom is Alice in Wonderland
or Cinderella. It would be totally messed up!
I'm really emotional. I don't fight with people - like,
I can barely fight with my husband because
I'll just start crying instead. I've learnt not to do that.
"The one thing that makes me feel super lucky about
my financial success is that I have a housekeeper."
"My songs are basically my diaries. Some of my best
songwriting has come out of time when I've been
going through a personal nightmare."
"I'd like to stress that I only have a small role.
Oh, who am I kidding? There are no small roles in a Scorsese
film."
(regarding her role in "The Aviator")
"For me, acting comes from the same place as performing
music. I just have to perform. I wanted to get it right
and I did. Sometimes you just have to go for it."
"I imagine having children will save me from
my vanity and fill whatever fears I have."
"I really don't care what people say. It's not like
it
discourages me from doing something I want to do".
