Melissa Joan Catherine Hart was born on April 18, 1976 in Sayville, New York at 1:30 p.m. on Easter Sunday. Melissa is the oldest of six younger sisters: Trisha, Elizabeth, Emily, Alexandra, Samantha and Mackenzie, and one younger brother Brian all of whom are in show biz. Melissa's parents are William and Paula Hart, lobster wholesalers the family grew up for the most part in NY.

Melissa shot her first national TV commercial when she was four years old for a bathtub toy called "Splashy", she's been working non-stop since. Her mother, Paula , has been her agent from the beginning.

Her first movie appearance is in Crocodile Dundee (1986) the small role was cut from the film. When Melissa was 13 years old she performed in off-Broadway play "Beside Herself" with William Hurt and Calista Flockhart in 1989, another in "Imagining Brad" in 1990. She also was in the National Actors Theatre production of "The Crucible" on Broadway with Martin Sheen (as understudy to three of the children in the play). Melissa has also appeared in the NBC TV-movie Christmas Show, guested on The Equalizer, The Luci Arnaz Show, Saturday Night Live and Another World. She also starred in the ABC Weekend Special The Adventures of Con Sawyer and Hucklemary Finn.

All but the youngest sibling, Samantha, have been "in the business" in some capacity; Elizabeth, Emily and Brian have appeared on Melissa's current TV series, "Sabrina, the Teenage Witch". Melissa's sister Elizabeth is the voice on the Saturday morning cartoon series "Sabrina".

Of course, her big break was the TV venture on Nickelodeon "Clarissa Explains it All", which took a break from the air in the fall of 1994. However, Clarissa will reappeared on a major TV network in 1995; this time she will be taking some college courses and working on a New York City newspaper. Melissa cites Shirley Temple and Audrey Hepburn as early acting inspirations. She still collects Shirley Temple memorabilia.

For the past few years, Melissa entered New York University as a part-time freshman in the fall of 1994. Starting on campus at NYU (sharing with three other students). Juggling acting and classes din't work out when she got the role of "Sabrina" that didn't work out and she began takes classes via correspondence courses since January 1994. Melissa has been pursuing a BA in a combination of art and literature classes, but put her studies on hold for 1 year due to her hectic filming schedules. She's now living in the Los Angeles area, stared in the ABC TV series "Sabrina, the Teenage Witch" (1996-2003), which is produced by Hartbreak Films, the production company run by her and her mother. The TV Show "Sabrina the Teenaged witch" has come to an end after seven seasons 1996-2003.

In 2003 Mellissa married in Florence, Italy to Mark Wilkerson, frontman for the band "Course of Nature", in (2003). By early 2007, she and her husband, Mark Wilkerson, are the parents of a boy, Mason Walter Wilkerson, born on 11th January 2006, weighing 9lbs exactly.
