Never talked about any of the men she has allegedly dated.
Rumored to be in a serious lesbian relationship with
Cydney Bernard (b:1953) since they met in 1993 on
the set of the movie Sommersby.
Mother to a boy, Charles Foster, in the summer of 1998.
Her second son, Kit, was born September 29, 2002
Jodie Foster was born Alicia Christian
Foster she has a
brother named Buddy Foster and a sister Connie Foster.
Her
siblings always called her Jodie and the nickname stuck.
Her father Lucius Foster left the family when Jodie's mother
Brandy was only a few months pregnant with her in 1961.
In
1963 Jodie's career began early; as a 2 year old child model
and performer, she was managed by her mother-who, among
other accomplishments, got young Jodie a modeling job as
one of the bare-bottomed tykes in the Coppertone ads in
1964. In
the advertisement, a puppy tugs at her underwear and reveals
her white bottom. Jodie was a child prodigy of sorts reading
by the time she was three years old. For
four years she made commercials and finally gave her debut
as an actress in the TV series "Mayberry R.F.D."
in 1968. In 1980 she graduated as the best of her class
from the College Lycée Français highschool
in Los Angeles and learns to speak french fluently.
Her
mother, Brandy, managed her career thoughout her childhood
until Jodie was 20 years old.
Jodie grew up an intelligent and intensely
talented young girl whose determination and artistic daring
made her one of the top actresses in Hollywood. Jodie's
first TV movie was Menace
on the Mountain in 1970. Her
first film was "Napoleon
and Samantha" (1972), a Disney outing that cast
her as a runaway. After
a day of filming, during filming Jodie was unbelievably
mauled by a lion and carried briefly in its mouth.
By
the time she was a teenager, Foster already had several
Hollywood Disney films to her credit, including "One
Little Indian" (1973), "Tom
Sawyer" (1973), "Alice's Adventures in Wonderland"
(1975), and "Echoes of a Summer" (1976), in addition
to three more interesting films: a bit part in a early Martin
Scorsese picture, "Alice
Doesn't Live Here Anymore" (1974), then playing
a tomboy; "Bugsy
Malone" (1976), a gangster spoof wierdly cast entirely
with children, in which she plays a tough dame who's pelted
with whipped cream "bullets" in the finale; and
"Freaky
Friday" (1977), an amusing Disney comedy in which
she switched identities with onscreen mom Barbara Harris.
A film that was remade again in 2002 starring the young
gigglely breasted Lindsay
Lohan and seasoned breasty actress Jamie Lee Curtis.
She also costarred with Helen Hayes and David Niven in another
1977 Disney comedy later in, "Candleshoe".
In 1975 a 13 year old Jodie was offered
the role that would gavanize her career etching her name
into hollywood history. Playing the prostitute Iris in the
movie classic "Taxi
Driver" (1976) co starring soon to ledgend Robert
Denero. This role, for which she received an Academy Award
nomination in the "Best Supporting Actress" category,
marked a huge breakthrough in her career. Scorsese, already
impressed with Foster in "Alice
Doesn't Live Here Anymore", cast her as a teenaged
prostitute opposite Robert De Niro in the classic film.
Foster's startling realistic performance in that film brought
her more attention than she ever could have imagined. Before
she could even accept the role she was required to pass
a psychiatric evaluation mandated by the studio. After 4
hours she passed easily and was finally accepted for the
role. Despite the fact that Jodie never took acting lessons, Foster
is an highly intelligent instinctual actress that has never
received any formal theatrical training. Undoubtedly
thru the years she has worked with many great acting coaches
growing up as a young child star. She had so much experience
making so many movies before she was even out of highschool.
One bizzarre moment in her life was
March 30th, 1981 when John Warnock Hinkley Jr. attempted
to assassinate the then President of the United States,
Ronald Reagan on her behalf. Hinkley was deeply obsessed
with Jodie and the movie "Taxi Driver", in which
Travis Bickle, played by Robert De Niro, tried to shoot
presidential candidate Palantine. Later Hinkley requests
a back issue of the young actress from prison. He also confesses
that he did it for Jodie believing she wanted him to kill
the president.
By then, Foster had long been an A
student at Yale University, where she studied literature
not acting. During her early years as a student she poses
semi-nude for a sexy photoshoot for mens magazine "High
Society" in the March 1982 issue. During school vacations,
she managed to appear in several features, including the
lost film "Carny" (1980), and the sexy Foxes
film in (1980) is worth a look. Eventually she filmed "The
Hotel New Hampshire" in (1984), before graduating
magna cum laude in 1985. Later she would receive an
honorary Doctorate of Fine Arts from Yale University in
1997.
After
graduating she travels to France and fillms Sang
des autres, Le in (1984). Already
fascinated by behind-the-camera work,
when
she returned to the states she had too many film offers
stacked up. She
delivered mature, accomplished performances in the little-seen
vehicles Mesmerized
in (1986), Five
Corners (1987), Siesta
(1987) and
Stealing
Home (1988).
Finally striking gold in 1988,
She received her first Oscar award for her
part as Sarah Tobias in "The
Accused" (1988) based on a true story.
She
portrays a lower-class rape victim defending her character
in the film. The character beleaguered with drugs, alcohol
and promisquity in her life fights for justice. This award
had forced hollywood to accept her as an adult actress and
also gave her the ability to carry a film with her name
alone.
In 1989 Jodie meets with Dennis Hopper and agrees to appear
fully nude in the B-movie film " Backtrack"
(1990). The low production budget film is directed of course
by Hopper who stars in the mafia made man debacle. Hopper
loves to make films with liberal amounts of nudity and sex
and is certianly well known for it. The film almost seems
like a penance for the opprtunity to make her own her directorial
debut with an episode of TV's "Tales from the Darkside".
Almost as a practice for what would be the first of her
many production attempts. Jodie stars in and directs the
heart warming story with the film drama "Little
Man Tate" (1991). As director and star, Foster
turned in an exceptional job, telling the story of a child
prodigy-a character with whom she could certainly empathize.
An impressive feat for the 28 year old Yale alumni. Jodie
was at this point thinking beyond acting and thought more
about her own film production company.
Foster galvanized audiences and won
her second Best Actress Oscar in 1991 for her portrayal
of FBI agent trainee Clarice Starling in the mega hit thriller
"The
Silence of the Lambs" in 1991 making her again
one of Hollywood's hottest properties. She got the role
of Clarice Starling only after Michelle Pfeiffer originally
turned it down. The film eventually goes into movie history
for it's disturbing portrayal of the genius serial killer
Dr Lecter played by Anthony Hopkins. The film eventually
spawns 2 more sequels including "Hannibal" (2001)
and "Red Dragon" (2002), and remains one of hollywood's
best series of horror movies of all time.
Her cameo in Woody Allen's "Shadows
and Fog" (1992) brought Foster back to a role she'd
played at age 12: a prostitute. The film was a great sucess
which lead to her next project. She then costarred with
Richard Gere in the love story "Sommersby"
in 1993 giving another stellar performance followed by award
nominations.
When she appeared in 1994's "Maverick"
co-starring Mel Gibson she brought back that irresistibly
sexy Jodie Foster we all know and love and is surrounded
by an all star cast. The film was a romantic comedy and
is still a very popular film today.
On the set while filming "Sommersby"
in 1993 Jodie meets her soon to be lover 43
years old Cydney Bernard. Cydney
who happens to be a lovely female film production manager
becomes very close with the legendary actress during filming.
The couple apparently share a hot torrid sexual relationship
secretly for years after. Jody and Cydney lusty love affair
dispells some myths about Jodie's personal life. Since she
has never even been engaged or married throughout her career.
She certianly had to keep her personal life very private
while growing up a kid actor in showbiz. Which of course
forces us to re-think who Jody hung out with in the 80's.
Foster scored another Best Actress
nomination for her portrayal of a backwoods woman in "Nell"
(1994), the first film made by her own film production company,
Egg Productions which she founded in 1993. She then directs
"Home for the Holidays".
Even continuing her success, she
intellectually dazzles audiences in the film "Contact"
1997 directed by Robert Zemeckis and "Anna
and the King" (1999). Jodie takes on a completly
new type of character in "The
Dangerous Lives of Altar Boys" in (2002).
After
filming "Contact"
Jodie is pregnant and a mystery develops surrounding who
the would be father is. The single never been married 36
year old actress declines comments on the subject.
In 1998 she also had to pull out of the film "Double
Jeopardy" (1999) because she became pregnant. Jodie's
life changes forever as she gives birth to her son,
Charles Foster, in the late summer months.
After the release of "Panic Room" her second son,
Kit, is born on September 29, 2002. Again Jodie offers
no explanations as to who the father is of her 2 children.
A tell all book later reveals that Feminist heroine / single
mother / intelligent Jodie Foster apparently undertook a
more methodical search for the perfect sperm donor. According
to numerous reports in the British press in 1998, she had
proudly announced that after a long hunt, she had herself
impregnated with the gametes of a tall, dark, handsome scientist
with an IQ of 160. While Miss Foster will neither confirm
nor deny these articles, this does not at all seem out of
character. In her movies and personal life, Miss Foster
has often appeared to be loyally trying to reproduce her
unusual upbringing. According to her ne'er-do-well brother
Buddy's tell-all book "Foster
Child", Alicia Foster's nickname of "Jodie"
is a tribute to "Aunt" Jo, who was their mother's
pistol-packing live-in lesbian lover.
In 2002 Nicole Kidman dropped out
of the role for "Panic
Room" (2002) and Jodie's success with the film
thrilled movie goers and fans. During filming her second
pregnancy becomes more evident forcing a change in some
wardrobe and filming sequences.
In 2005 Jodie appears in the film "Flightplan"
which was little disapointing and will soon be released
onto DVD.
Next year see Jodie Foster act and
direct as a recent law school graduate teaming with an experienced
public-interest attorney to take on a sugar baron. The film
acted with Robert De Niro called "Sugarland" is
set for release in (2007). Jodie just completed work on
film "Inside
Man" as Madeliene White working will another ledgendary
actor Denzel Washington and directed by Spike Lee in theaters
soon.

QUOTES
"I've learned something in the last few years that
I really didn't know about myself as an actor. I basically
learned how to stay happy. It's important for me to be happy
working or I feel resentful. I don't like it. I hate myself.
What I know now is that I really need to love the director.
I need him to be a good parent. And then I will lie down
on the train tracks for him and go to the ends of the earth
for him."
"Being understood is not the most essential thing in
life."
On
her role in Taxi Driver (1976), when she was 13:
"I spent four hours with a shrink trying to prove I
was normal enough to play a hooker. Does that make sense?"
"Normal
is not something to aspire to,
it's something to get away from."
"Cruelty
might be very human, and it might be cultural, but it's
not acceptable."
"It's
not my personality to be extroverted emotionally,
so acting has been helpful to me."
"I
could tell you the criticism backward and forward about
Little Man Tate (1991). But it didn't bother me as long
as they were talking about the work and not about 'she has
fat thighs' or something. But I fared really well with 'Tate,'
so I shouldn't be complaining."
"Kids
talk like sailors now. Adults don't want to know."
-- at age 14.
On
the advantages of being an actress who is months from turning
40: "They've lived longer, they're more confident about
their choices and they don't have to be hip and cool anymore,
which I think is a godsend - you make really bad choices
when you are trying to be hip." -- April 2004
"If
I fail, at least I will have failed my way."
On
"Foster Child," her brother Buddy's unauthorized
biography about her: "A cheap cry for attention and
money filled with hazy recollections, fantasies and borrowed
press releases. Buddy has done nothing but break our mother's
heart his whole life."
On
devoting more time to parenting her sons than film work:
"There's something so pure about the ways boys love
you."
"I'm
interested in directing movies about situations that I've
lived, so they are almost a personal essay about what I've
come to believe in."
