in an acting class in 1991. Dated [1991-2003]
Born in Spring Valley, NY USA (near
New York City) as youngest of three daughters of a former
dancer in American Ballet and an advertising writer. Until
she she began high school in New Hampshire at 14, she lived
several years with her family in Paris and in England. Obtained
a B.A. degree in liberal arts from Sarah Lawrence College,
where she appeared in several plays on campus. She enjoys inline
skating, running, reading and attending three or four movies
a week.
Shortly afterwards, Margulies and
her family were off to Paris, where they lived for two years
before relocating to England. When she was five, they returned
to Spring Valley, and five years later they moved back to
England. At 14, Margulies began high school in New Hampshire.
She obtained a B.A. in liberal arts from Sarah Lawrence
College, where she appeared on campus in several plays.
While looking for acting jobs in New York, Margulies waited
tables for a year until winning a role as a prostitute looking
to go straight in "Out for Justice." Eventually,
she supported herself by appearing in regional theater productions,
at the Yale Repertory Theatre and the Asolo Theatre in Florida,
as well as in national TV commercials. She guest-starred
in an episode of NBC's "Law & Order" and then
filmed "Philly Heat," a pilot from Tom Fontana.
Later, Fontana wrote her into a recurring role in a few
episodes of his new NBC series "Homicide: Life on the
Street" as a waitress and violinist.
She was visiting a friend in Los Angeles in 1994 when she
auditioned for a guest role in the pilot episode of "ER" (1994-2000).
This was Her breakout career role. Michael Chrichton and Stephen Spielberg were impressed with
her work so that she got the role of nurse Carol Hathaway.
Now Margulies lives in Santa Monica, CA. Her character in "ER" (1994-2000) is the head nurse Carol Hathaway,
who almost died from an attempted suicide in the series'
pilot.
Julianna Margulies won an Emmy in 1995 (Julianna is the
only recipient of an Emmy). She has earned three consecutive
Emmy nominations. An Emmy Award winner in 1995 as Best Supporting
Actress in a Drama Series, Julianna Margulies also won the
Best Supporting Actress Award from Viewers for Quality Television
and was nominated for a Golden Globe Award and a Screen
Actors Guild Award for her work on "ER" (1994-2000).
She received critical acclaim in
Taylor Hackfords "Paradise Road" starring
opposite Glenn Close. She also starred in "The Traveler"
with Bill Paxton. She was offered one million dollars be in Anaconda (1997) but Jennifer Lopez takes the cash instead. Her films next include "The Newton
Boys" with Matthew McConaughey, , and "Price Below Rubies" with Renee
Zellweger, by early 1998.
At this point her movie career cooled off when it should have taken off. Her choice not to take the lead role in
Anaconda (1997) was prolly a mistake. She will receive other movie roles instead over the next few years. Such as bit parts in The
Big Day (1999/I) , What's
Cooking? and the animated film (2000)
, Dinosaur (2000).
She finally left the TV series "ER" to pursue work in NY in theater in 2000. She was even offered $27 million to renew her contract with "ER" (1994-2000) but turned it down so she could move back to NYC and work in the theater.
After a few years she is finally offered several quality lead film roles by 2001. Her performance in The Man
from Elysian Fields, (2001) was stellar and more quality offers leading roles quickly followed. The
Mist of Avalon (2001), Evelyn (2002), and the thriller "Ghost
Ship" (2002) . Her career was prolly limited because she likely also had issues with other roles offered that contained a little more hot sex and nudity. Julianna has never appeared nude in any film roles but has intense sex appeal in her acting that naturally reaches audiences.
This prolly limits her career options at this point and by 2003 she is working on a TV Sci Fi Channel mini series "The Grid". Also bit roles on the hit TV show like "Scrubs" as the sexy "Nina" in 2004 and "The Sopranos" as the lusious lover Julianna Skiff in 2005. Then of course comes the thriller "Snakes on a Plane".

an Emmy award, plus she has been awarded the Screen Actors
Guild Award for Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor
in a Drama Series 2 years in a row (1998 & 1999).
Majored in art history at Sarah Lawrence College;

Her
father wrote Alka Seltzer "Plop-Plop, Fizz-Fizz"
jingle.
Kids at school used to call Julianna 'fat head'
and 'flounder mouth'. (There was no need for that!)
QUOTES

On Steven Seagal, with whom she worked with on the movie
Out for Justice (1991): "His trailer is around the
corner from mine on the Warner Bros. lot, and I was walking
by recently and he said, 'Margulies, come over here and
show me some respect!' He's not someone I keep in touch
with."
On September 11: "Everyone reacts differently. My reaction
was I needed to go down there to help. Friends I had couldn't
watch the television any more, couldn't go down there. But
I needed to do whatever I could. And I did go down there
and help. I cooked for the guys. I visited sick people.
I felt, I'm from New York and it's my community and it's
what I know and I wouldn't have wanted to be anywhere else."
On "The Grid" (2004) (mini)'s: "What I love
about the script is that it shows many points of view instead
of just one."
