The New York Post reports rivals Jennifer Lopez and Gwyneth Paltrow are gearing up for a box-office showdown as Miramax prepares to release their movies at the same time. Both stars have films with Harvey Weinstein's company - Lopez with Robert Redford in 'An Unfinished Life' and Paltrow in 'Proof' - and both are hoping that Miramax's mighty marketing division will push them as Oscar contenders -- but an insider says J.Lo is getting favored treatment. Us Weekly reports Jennifer Lopez is keeping people guessing wearing an engagement ring from Marc Anthony on her left middle finger. "Yeah, he gave her a ring, and yeah, it's an engagement ring, but they aren't engaged," a pal of Anthony told the magazine. Another Anthony pal added, "This [ring] is to tell the other guys, 'Yo, step off. She's spoken for'." And a pal of J.Lo's said, "She's happier than she's been in a long time. When they are ready to get married for real, she'll be wearing a diamond on the ring finger and not her middle one."

Us Weekly News Director Mark Malkin tells 'Extra' their insight on the breakup of Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck. He says, "They were actually in counseling to try and make this relationship work. Unfortunately, it didn't work." So who is taking the breakup harder? Malkin says that Affleck is. He says, "Since the breakup, Ben has actually been going to casinos, he's been gambling, hanging out with friends. (sounds like ben is out on parole now if you ask me). J.Lo's New Album News : lopez_lover writes "Red Hot J.Lo reports that Jennifer Lopez, who recently has had more exposure due to her on again/off again relationship with Ben Affleck, is planning to release a brand new album mid-2004. Two tracks have been recorded in the last few weeks, after Sony released the DVD/CD package 'The Reel Me'. 'If U Want It' is a mid-tempo track, whereas '(Livin' On) E-Z St.' is up-tempo and features a rap by Jay-Z. The album, which is still untitled, will see Lopez teaming up with long-time collaborator Cory Rooney. New album will also see her return to the music that was featured on her 2001 set 'J-Lo'."

Today, both Lopez, 29, and Combs, 30, say they are innocent of the gun charges and deny any involvement in the shooting.

Lopez and Boyfreind Puff Daddy aka Sean Combs both were arrested for weapons possesion charges after allegedly leaving a Times Square nightclub following a shooting that wounded three people. A little-known rapper was later arrested for the crime.


The dispute allegedly started when someone threw money into Combs' face, police said. Assistant District Attorney Matthew Bogdanos said a witness reported that 19-year-old James Barrow and Combs both pulled out guns.

Minutes after the shooting, police stopped a Lincoln Navigator for leaving the scene and running at least one red light. Lopez and Combs were in the back seat and a driver and bodyguard were in the front of the vehicle.

Police say they found a stolen 9 mm on the front seat but do not believe it was used in the shooting. All four people in the car were taken into custody because none had a license for the gun.

No need to call Ashley Judd: Jennifer Lopez is back on the romantic thriller Angel Eyes after Warner Bros. agreed to pay the actress-singer $7.5 million to star, reports Variety.

Earlier negotiations stalled when Lopez held out for $8 million, while producers would go no higher than $7 million, according to The Hollywood Reporter. With a nifty halfway compromise, hot property Lopez is back in the lead, as a female police officer coping with a history of sexual abuse by befriending a man grieving for his dead wife and son.

The 29-year-old hottie has seen her asking price soar since the success of the 1996 biopic Selena, for which she received $1 million. She scored $2 million for her steamy turn as a federal marshal in the 1998 heist thriller Out of Sight.

There's also news about another hot actress who was reportedly in the running for the third-angel slot. Jennifer Lopez is instead eyeing another angelic role, that of the lead in Angel Eyes.

Lopez lately bailed on negotiations to star in the film when Warner Bros. couldn't meet her asking price. Now the Reporter reveals that the actress-singer is back at the negotiating table. Ashley Judd, whose name was also dropped for Charlie's Angels, was said to be a likely substitute for Lopez.

When actress and singer Lopez walked out of negotiations for the starring role in the drama Angel Eyes, Warner Bros. turned to Judd, says The Hollywood Reporter. Lopez wanted $8 million for the policewoman role, but Warners wouldn't go higher than $7 million. Negotiations broke down, and Lopez, who'd been negotiating for the role since June, was out of there. Talks had already proceeded to the point that the Out of Sight star's casting choices had been made.

Lopez was originally offered $5 million, but her reps demanded $8 million. But who exactly passed on whom? Sources close to the project blame major miscommunications between Lopez, her reps, and the top brass at Warner Bros. and ICM for the snuffed deal.
