Rose Arianna McGowen was
born in Tuscany region in Florence, Italy. Born on September 5, 1973
to parents a French mother, and an Irish father. She is the second oldest of six children. Rose's
mother was French, and father was Irish but she spent
most of her life to herself. Rose's parents were in a
cult called "The Children of God" (a cult which
had other famous members besides Rose, such as Joaquin
and River Phoenix.) The group emphasized the cutting of
family ties, discipline and commitment to cult beliefs,
which included total devotion to cult activities on the
part of children of members. The group's activities triggered
a 18-month investigation by New York's Attorney General's
Office in the 1970s, which led to a 1974 report alleging
that cult members were engaged in kidnapping, imprisonment,
virtual enslavement, prostitution, polygamy, rape and
sexual abuse of children and incest. Rose and her family
remain in the cult until 1982.
Her family finally left the cult and moved to Oregon, when she was age 9. She was once accused (by parents)
of being a druggie when she wasn't. Just because she dressed
a certain way, she was labeled that way and eventually
was sent to rehab by her parents. Rose eventually runs
away from home when was about 16 years old. Rose's
parents later get a divorce, and her father toured around
Europe as a photographer for magazines for a while. Rose lived with
her mother and her many other siblings. She was kind
of a loner in school wearing all black, and spent a lot
of time in the library. She was always invited to the
clique parties, but they "weren't her scene". Her look
proved to be a disadvantage to her when a man her father
was dating saw her appearence, and was sure that she was
on some sort of drugs. She was sent off to a drug rehab
center, even though at this point in her life, she had
never experimented with drugs. Rose couldn't stand being
in this place, so basically, she just ran away.
At this
point, Rose was pretty much on her own. She went around,
and didn't have any long standing jobs. One of her jobs
was in a movie theater where they played movies that had
been released before, and were almost on video. Her job
was to stand by the door, and lure guys in to see her,
and in turn, the movie. This job didn't last long, as
she was fired for breaking cookies. Only the broken cookies
could be eaten by employees, so Rose would throw them
against the wall, and break them. Later, Rose went to
work in gay night clubs as a dancer. She isn't gay and
did so for two reasons. The first is that after the club
closed, it gave her a place to stay, and the second reason
is that there wouldn't be any guys hitting on her. Once she states she was even gay bashed.
She had her hair pulled back, and she said that she must
have looked like a guy. Eventually, Rose got her first
acting roles. It was not on purpose though. She was standing
outside a gym, refusing to go in because of how corny
it was, when Greg Araki spotted her. It was then that he casted her in The Doom Generation. Rose was also cast
off the street for her role in Bio Dome. Since then Rose
has gone on to star in Scream, Going All the Way, Nowhere,
Phantoms, Ready to Rumble and many other features.
Rose wants to be a museum curater, but is pretty busy
with acting right now. Not sure why I'm sure she'd make a enticing curator to be sure.
She currently still stars on TV's "Charmed" with Alyssa
Milano and Holly Marie Combs. Rose replaced Shannen Dorhety
when she left the show in 2001.
Rose was engaged to shock rocker Marilyn Manson 1998-2001.
She believed that marriage was a time for them "to get
even crazier with each other." I guess Marilyn didn't
think so however and they split in January 2001. Rose told Howard Stern
that she broke up with Marilyn Manson because she was tired
of the rock and roll lifestyle he engaged in. When pressed
further, she admitted that drug use was a big part of
that lifestyle in October 2001. Ex-boyfriend: Amhet Zappa
Currently dating: David Zinczenko, Editor of 'Men's Health'
magazine.
Currently she resides in Los Angeles, California with
her two Boston terriers named Bug and Fester and an occasional boyfriend. The TV Series Charmed ended in 2006 so Rose is free to pursue some real acting work. She is back quickly in the new hot movie role in 2007 with Robert Rodriguez's / Quentin Tarantino Grindhouse film "Deathproof" and "Planet Terror" check em out for a sexy Rose starring as the hottie stripper Cherry Darling.
This year Rose is hot (Duh) and Ranked #44 on the Maxim magazine Hot 100 of 2007 list. We think she is way hotter than that at #17. Currently dating boyfriend Robert Rodriguez when he directed her in Planet Terror (2007) (ahem).
